I Wanted My Daddy To Be Here

I Wanted My Daddy To Be Here

Daddy you weren’t there through my growing up years

Many a night I cried lonely tears.

I wanted my daddy to be here.

I had a step father but it wasn’t the same

He was a father only in name.

I wanted my daddy to be here.

I was so young when you had to go

But I still loved you so

I wanted my daddy to be here.

Many a time I would think of you

Hoping you was thinking of me too.

I wanted my daddy to be here.

I held the memory of you close to my heart

Even though my world without you was falling apart

I wanted my daddy to be here.

I was always searching and looking for your face

But it seems you vanished without a trace

I wanted my daddy to be here.

I often wondered if it was me that made you go

But daddy I still loved you so

I wanted my daddy to be here.

The pain of missing my daddy was always there

A life without a daddy is never fair.

I wanted my daddy to be here.

Through the years I grew

I tried finding you but there was nothing I could do.

I wanted my daddy to be here.

You weren’t there to walk me down the aisle

What I would give to sit with you for awhile.

I wanted my daddy to be here.

Babies of my own I had

But my heart was still really sad.

I wanted my daddy to be here.

I still held your memory in my heart

I wanted to find you and have a fresh start

I wanted my daddy to be here.

I want you to see my children grow

Because they will love you too I know

I wanted my daddy to be here.

Now that I finally found you

And you say that you missed me too

Even though you have been gone for so many years

And after all the heartaches and tears

I can still say I wish my daddy was here.
